Jim Croce died in , but Verities and Balderdash the album which the song was on wasn't released until a year later. Let's hope Jim Croce doesn't show up on there again.
However, he died in a car accident at age 38 while on his way to do a free concert to bring attention to world hunger. It was a loving dig at Chapin for spending time on the road and not enough with his newborn son. Chapin was deeply dedicated to humanitarian causes. Proceeds too many of his concerts went to his foundation.
